REBUILD: PREP WEEK
SPOILER ALERT: We all have unique needs when it comes to nutrition - it’s not one size fits all. However, aside from major health concerns, it’s pretty hard to go wrong if you stick with reasonable portions of real, whole foods.
So what should you eat? Your mombody loves good fats, and your mombody loves green veggies. Your mombody also loves probiotic-rich foods like kefir, sauerkraut and kimchi to keep your momBELLY super healthy so it can absorb all this goodness you are feeding it. Protein is pretty damn awesome too but it’s best served as a “condiMEAT” as Dr. Mark Hyman calls it because protein is no longer the star of the show, it’s more of a “condiment”. Eating too much protein is not only bad for the planet, but too much protein also converts into stored fat.
It’s amazing how your mombody is able to feel completely energized, boost metabolism, rebalance hormones, lower inflammation, boost brain health, remove hot flashes, eliminate cravings, remain satisfied for hours between meals without ever thinking of snacks, AND eat it’s own fat stores when you give it a chance to do so.
You truly won’t believe how awesome it is to see your mombody “eat” away the stubborn fat on your waistline and thighs just by changing up your food choices. It’s kind of amazing.
So, are we reducing our carb intake? Yes, because we are bumping up our fat intake and the magic doesn’t happen if you are eating high carb and high fat at the same time.
Is good fat your new best friend? Yes! Because fat is what your body prefers to use for energy since it’s clean and slow burning. On the flip-side, carbohydrates are oxidative (dirty) and quick burning which is why we are constantly hungry, irritable, and can’t stop eating all the time and dreaming about chocolate and croissants. Eating carbs at every meal, all day long, is what gets our mombodies into trouble. If you reset your body throughout our 6 weeks together, I promise you will never look at carbs the same way again.
Remember: If you stop feeding the sugar monster, your sugar monster will eventually die.
Does this mean you can never eat carbs ever, ever again? Absolutely not! In fact your mombody loves when you eat GOOD carbs because it raises your serotonin levels (happy hormones make for a happy mama). In fact, it’s best to cycle in and out of being a fat burner which is important to remember once the program ends. Keep your body guessing.
But for the next six weeks, we need to slow down on the carbs and introduce them again in a way that makes sense for your UNIQUE mombody. You will know much more about how many carbs your body can handle once you’ve been through this program. Some moms do better eating low carb/high fat all the time. Others do great eating higher carbs if exercising is a large part of their lives. It’s up to you.
Sidenote: Eating carbs in a seasonal way is truly the best strategy for me, personally. Berries in the summer. Butternut squash & sweet potatoes in the fall. Alcoholic drinks, bread and cheese plates when out with the ladies. A delicious bowl of homemade pasta when in Rome. You get the idea. Carbs are celebratory. Carbs are awesome. And I’m not just talking about the GOOD carbs here. Bring on the french fries if that is what you truly want.
In summary: Eating good fats, lots of veggies, probiotic foods, moderate protein is the best way to feed a healthy mombody. And this way of eating is recommended by doctors & nutritionists that help millions of women all over the world. But don’t take my word for it! Check out books like Keto Green by Dr. Anna Cabeca and Keto Diet by Dr. Axe to start. If you suspect a thyroid problem then you should read The Paleo Thyroid Solution by Elle Russ. If you suspect your hormones are really out of whack then I suggest checking out Cooking for Hormone Balance by Magdelena Wszelaki. And finally, The Hormone Reset Diet by Sara Gottfried is another good choice.
You won’t even believe how much your food choices are affecting EVERYTHING in your mombody. And you truly won’t believe how easy it is to “fix” your mombody strictly by what you are putting on your plate. It blows us away every time.
